The dropper is sterile. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye.Apply light pressure to the inside corner of the eye (near the nose) after each drop to prevent the fluid from draining down the tear duct. What is betaxolol ophthalmic?Betaxolol is in a class of drugs called beta-blockers. Betaxolol ophthalmic reduces pressure inside the eye. Betaxolol ophthalmic is used to treat glaucoma or high pressure in the eye. Betaxolol ophthalmic may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. Why is this medication prescribed?Betaxolol is used to treat glaucoma, a condition in which increased pressure in the eye can lead to gradual loss of vision. Betaxolol decreases the pressure in the eye. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. How should this medicine be used?Betaxolol comes as eyedrops. Betaxolol usually is used twice a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use betaxolol exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor. If you are using the suspension form of betaxolol eyedrops (Betoptic S), shake the bottle well before each dose. It is not necessary to shake betaxolol eyedrop solution. Betaxolol controls glaucoma but does not cure it. Continue to use betaxolol even if you feel well. What should I do if I forget a dose?Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule.
